Detailed Itinerary
Day 1 | Arrive at Paro and Drive to Thimphu (50 km)
Arrive at Paro International Airport, where you will be greeted by your guide. Begin your journey with a scenic drive to Thimphu, Bhutan’s vibrant capital. Enjoy the winding roads through lush valleys and tranquil forests. Upon arrival, check into your hotel and take the evening to relax or explore the bustling streets of Thimphu.
Day 2 | Thimphu
Explore the cultural and historical landmarks of Thimphu. Visit the iconic Buddha Dordenma, a massive golden statue overlooking the valley, and the Motithang Takin Preserve to see Bhutan’s national animal. Later, enjoy a short hike to Tango Buddhist University. Take the evening to stroll through the city’s lively markets and cafes.
Day 3 | Ride to Punakha (73 km)
Begin your ride to Punakha, crossing the Dochula Pass at 3,100 metres. Pause at the pass to marvel at panoramic views of the Eastern Himalayas and the 108 chortens that adorn the ridge. Descend into the warmer Punakha Valley, where you will visit the stunning Punakha Dzong, a masterpiece of Bhutanese architecture. End the day with a walk to Chimi Lhakhang, the Temple of Fertility.
Day 4 | Ride to Paro (115 km)
Ride back to Paro, bypassing Thimphu. Upon arrival, spend the afternoon exploring Paro Town, visiting landmarks such as Drukgyel Dzong and the National Museum. The charming streets of Paro offer an excellent opportunity to shop for traditional handicrafts or relax in a local cafe.
Day 5 | Taktsang Hike
Start the day with a ride to the Taktsang base. Hike to the iconic Taktsang Monastery, also known as the Tiger’s Nest, perched on a cliff 900 metres above the valley floor. Alternatively, choose an excursion to the Ha Valley, riding through the scenic Chele La Pass, Bhutan’s highest motorable road at 3,900 metres. Enjoy the tranquillity and panoramic views before returning to Paro.
Day 6 | Departure from Paro
After breakfast, transfer to Paro International Airport for your departure flight. Reflect on the stunning landscapes and rich cultural experiences of Bhutan as you bid farewell to this magical kingdom. Tashi Delek!
