Day 1 | Arrive at Paro and Drive to Thimphu (50 km)
Arrive at Paro International Airport, where you will be warmly greeted by your guide. Begin your scenic drive to Thimphu, Bhutan’s capital, passing through charming countryside dotted with traditional homes. Check into your hotel and take the evening to relax or explore the lively streets of Thimphu.
Day 2 | Thimphu
Spend the day exploring Thimphu’s cultural and historical highlights. Visit the iconic Buddha Dordenma, a giant golden statue overlooking the valley, and the Motithang Takin Preserve, home to Bhutan’s unique national animal. Hike to Tango Buddhist University and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding hills. End the day with a visit to the National Memorial Chorten or a stroll through the weekend market if your visit coincides.
Day 3 | Ride to Punakha (73 km)
Begin your ride to Punakha, crossing the stunning Dochula Pass at 3,100 metres. Stop at the pass to admire the 108 chortens and sweeping views of the Himalayas. Descend into the lush Punakha Valley, visit the majestic Punakha Dzong, and enjoy a peaceful walk to Chimi Lhakhang, the fertility temple. Overnight in Punakha.
Day 4 | Ride to Bumthang (212 km)
Embark on a long but rewarding ride to Bumthang, passing through Pelela, Yotongla, and Kikila Passes. En route, stop at Chendebji Chorten, a Nepalese-style stupa, and explore Trongsa Dzong and the nearby Trongsa Museum, which offer fascinating insights into Bhutan’s royal history. Arrive in Bumthang and settle into your accommodations for the night.
Day 5 | Explore Bumthang
Spend the day exploring Bumthang, the spiritual heartland of Bhutan. Visit sacred sites such as Jambay Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest temples, and Kurjey Lhakhang, where Guru Rinpoche meditated. Stop by Mebartsho (Burning Lake), a revered pilgrimage site, and conclude your day with a visit to Bumthang Brewery to sample local craft beers.
Day 6 | Excursion to Burning Lake/Tang Valley/Ugyen Choling Palace
Take a scenic ride to Tang Valley, known for its pristine beauty. Stop at Mebartsho and learn about its spiritual significance. Continue to Ugyen Choling Palace and Museum, a beautifully preserved heritage site offering insights into Bhutan’s feudal past. Return to Bumthang in the evening.
Day 7 | Ride to Gangtey Valley (155 km)
Ride to the picturesque Gangtey Valley, also known as Phobjikha Valley. This serene region is home to the endangered black-necked cranes during the winter months. Visit Gangtey Monastery and take a leisurely walk through the valley’s tranquil landscapes. Enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of this remote location.
Day 8 | Explore Gangtey
Spend the day exploring Gangtey Valley. Visit Gangtey Monastery and embark on the Gangtey Nature Trail, a gentle hike that offers stunning views of the valley and its quaint villages. Learn about conservation efforts for the black-necked cranes and enjoy the serene beauty of the area.
Day 9 | Ride to Paro (166 km)
Undertake the long ride back to Paro, passing through diverse landscapes and charming villages. Arrive in Paro in the evening and unwind at your hotel or take a stroll through the town, exploring its shops and cafes. Reflect on your journey so far as you prepare for the final leg of your adventure.
Day 10 | Riding Excursion to Ha (132 km)
Ride to the remote Ha Valley, known for its tranquil environment and stunning natural beauty. Cross Chelela Pass, Bhutan’s highest motorable road at 3,900 metres, and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding peaks. Spend time exploring Ha Valley before returning to Paro for the night.
Day 11 | Hike to Taktsang Monastery
Visit the iconic Taktsang Monastery, also known as the Tiger’s Nest. Ride to the base and begin the hike up to this sacred site perched dramatically on a cliffside, 900 metres above the valley floor. Learn about its spiritual significance and enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. Return to Paro for a relaxing evening.
Day 12 | Departure from Paro
