Day 1: Arrival and Sightseeing in Paro (2250m / 7382ft)
Upon arrival, a team member will escort you to your hotel for some rest before starting the day’s exploration. You will visit Rinpung Dzong, a historic fortress-monastery known for its striking architecture and annual festival. Later, proceed to Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest temples, and conclude the day with a visit to the iconic ruins of Drugyel Dzong.
Day 2: Excursion to Chele La Pass, then Drive to Thimphu (174 km)
Begin the day with a scenic drive to Chele La Pass, the highest motorable point in Bhutan, offering panoramic views of Mount Jumolhari. You will hike through vibrant prayer flags and ridges to reach Kila Gompa Nunnery, a serene retreat for Buddhist nuns. After lunch, descend through forests and continue to Thimphu, Bhutan’s capital city.
Day 3: Sightseeing in Thimphu
Discover Thimphu’s rich cultural heritage with visits to the Memorial Chorten, a stupa built to honour the third Druk Gyalpo, and the towering Buddha Dordenma statue overlooking the city. Explore the National Textile Museum to learn about Bhutanese weaving traditions and visit Tashichho Dzong, an impressive fortress housing the king’s offices. In the afternoon, enjoy an immersive experience at the Motithang Takin Preserve and a local paper-making factory.
Day 4: Thimphu to Punakha (76 km)
Embark on a journey to Punakha via the scenic Dochula Pass, known for its 108 chortens and breathtaking Himalayan views. Stroll through lush rice fields along the riverbanks before visiting the majestic Punakha Dzong, a riverside fortress celebrated for its intricate woodwork and vibrant history. Spend the evening soaking in the peaceful ambiance of Punakha Valley.
Day 5: Punakha Village Tour
Begin the day with a visit to the Punakha Suspension Bridge, offering spectacular views of the Pho Chhu River. Hike uphill to Limbhukha Village, known for its serene atmosphere and red rice cultivation. Here, you will experience warm local hospitality and learn about traditional Bhutanese lifestyles while sampling local delicacies.
Day 6: Punakha to Bumthang (214 km)
Travel to Bumthang, crossing the high-altitude Pele La Pass, which offers stunning mountain vistas. Stop at Trongsa Dzong, a historic fortress strategically located to control central Bhutan, and enjoy a hearty lunch. En route, visit a textile factory where skilled artisans weave vibrant woolen fabrics unique to the region.
Day 7: Tang Valley to Bumthang
Explore the serene Tang Valley, a picturesque area dotted with quaint villages and fertile farmland. Visit Ogyen Choling Palace, now a museum preserving Bhutanese cultural heritage, and enjoy a traditional Bhutanese lunch. End the day with a stop at Mebar Tsho, the "Burning Lake," a sacred site revered for its spiritual energy.
Day 8: Bumthang to Wangdue (197 km)
Begin the day with a visit to the Bumthang market to experience the local lifestyle before heading to Wangdue. Along the way, stop at Chendebji Chorten, a Nepalese-style stupa built to subdue a demon, and Gangtey Monastery, overlooking the stunning Phobjikha Valley. Enjoy the serene landscape and capture memorable moments.
Day 9: Wangdue to Paro (124 km)
Travel back to Paro, pausing at Chimi Lhakhang, a fertility temple known for its unique blessings, and Dochu La Pass, with its magnificent views and chortens. Visit the Druk Wangyal Monastery, which beautifully combines history and modern Bhutanese culture. Arrive in Paro in the evening for a relaxing stay.
Day 10: Hike to Tiger’s Nest Monastery
Embark on an unforgettable hike to Taktsang Monastery, also known as the Tiger’s Nest, perched dramatically on a cliffside. Enjoy a leisurely lunch at a viewpoint restaurant before continuing to the monastery, where you will learn about its historical and spiritual significance. Return to Paro and celebrate the completion of your journey with a traditional Bhutanese dinner.
Day 11: Departure
After breakfast, a team member will escort you to Paro International Airport for your departure. Bid farewell to the Land of the Thunder Dragon, carrying memories of a lifetime from this enchanting Himalayan adventure.
