Punakha Tsechu Festival Tour (9 Days)

Experience the vibrant Punakha Tsechu, a Buddhist festival held in honour of Guru Rinpoche, the saint who brought Buddhism to Bhutan. This colourful celebration, featuring unique masked dances and rituals, offers a glimpse into Bhutan’s rich cultural heritage. The tour also includes visits to iconic sites in Paro, Thimphu, Punakha, and the picturesque Phobjikha Valley, where you can view the majestic Black-Necked Cranes.

Overview

Day 1: Arrive Paro

Enjoy a spectacular flight to Paro, with breathtaking views of the Himalayas. After arrival, visit the National Museum at Ta Dzong and the historic Rinpung Dzong. Stroll across the cantilever wooden bridge and settle in for your first night in Paro.

Day 2: Paro

Hike to the iconic Taktsang Monastery, also known as Tiger’s Nest. After lunch, visit the reconstructed Drukgyel Dzong and enjoy the stunning backdrop of Mount Jomolhari. Explore more of Paro’s cultural sites in the evening. Overnight in Paro.

Day 3: Paro – Punakha

Drive over the scenic Dochu-La Pass to the Punakha Valley. On arrival, attend the Punakha Tsechu at the magnificent Punakha Dzong, where locals gather to celebrate with traditional masked dances. Overnight in Punakha.

Day 4: Punakha

Spend the morning at Punakha Dzong, immersing yourself in the festival’s energy and rituals. In the afternoon, visit Chimi Lhakhang, the fertility temple. Overnight in Punakha.

Day 5: Punakha – Phobjikha Valley

Travel to the serene Phobjikha Valley, a glacial valley and winter home of the Black-Necked Cranes. Visit the Phobjikha Sanctuary and Gangtey Monastery. Overnight in Phobjikha.

Day 6: Phobjikha Valley – Thimphu

Enjoy a nature walk in the valley before returning to Thimphu. Stop at Dochula Pass along the way for breathtaking views. Overnight in Thimphu.

Included Activities:

Day 7: Thimphu

Explore Thimphu’s cultural landmarks, including the National Memorial Chorten, Changangkha Temple, and Tashichhodzong. Visit the local market if it is the weekend. Overnight in Thimphu.

Included Activities:

Day 8: Thimphu – Paro

Complete your sightseeing in Thimphu before returning to Paro. Options include a visit to the School of Arts and Crafts, the National Library, and the Folk Heritage Museum. Overnight in Paro.

Included Activities:

Day 9: Depart Paro
